Machines, their origins and their uses.

The Early Bombard (veuglaire)

bombardelle

The first pieces of artillery to powder (end of XIIIè, beginning of XIVè century) are made out of wrought iron. The elements are assembled either in spiral, or into douelles and are ringed by it like a barrel. They took care by the mouth but of XVè one thinks of charging the tubes by the cylinder head with powder boxes. They launched stone balls which were gradually replaced by iron balls. This model is carried out starting from an original of the archaeological museum of Madrid.
